Protect Your Equipment

If you live in the rural area, you may have already experienced the different types of electrical disturbances such as voltage spikes, voltage drops, surges, brownouts and blackouts. Some may have even experienced the unfortunate event of a receiving a direct lightning strike. These events can damage any electronic device that is plugged in to power, and can be very costly to repair or replace.

CG Communications, Inc. recommends you protect your electronic equipment.

Ultimately the best protection is to unplug your electronic equipment such as computers, TVs, routers, Internet radio, etc. during an electrical storm.

To protect against many common electrical issues, we recommend you use surge protectors, or an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) to provide a first level of defense. You can also use a power line conditioner.

Power Strips are Not Surge Protectors

Most power strips are electrical cords with extensions and additional plugs. Most of these strips do not offer any protection against common electrical issues.

We do not recommend running a Power Strip as a long term solution as they may overload your electrical circuit, and can pose a safety hazard. If you live in an older home, you may need to contact an electrician to update your wires and circuits.

Contact your Local Electrician

If you have experienced multiple losses due to electrical issues, you may need to contact your local electrician and visit your local hardware store for additional solutions on protecting your home and electrical equipment.
