Reboot the Router

No Internet? Sluggish Internet? Pages not loading? Are links unresponsive? Do you get constant buffering?

Reboot the Router! Yes, it can be that easy to resolve common issues.

CG Communications, Inc. recommends rebooting a home router at least once per month. If you are a power user, you may need to reboot it once a week. If you see yourself rebooting it several times a day, it may be time to look for a different router. Of course, we would recommend getting a newer router after you have already isolated the issues to the router itself. In other words, if you don’t have the issues while directly connected to the LAN port of your Power Supply Adapter, then the issues may be with your router.  Over 90% of the calls we receive are resolved by bypassing the router.

Why do I need to reboot the router?

Considering the Internet is full of new and antiquated protocols that are doing very complex things, it is very difficult to determine what and why data is not passing through. There are gateways, switches, repeaters, analog to digital converters, MODEM boxes, routers, firewalls, and potentially more devices that data may travel through before reaching your computer. A simple reboot may get the data going again.

Does CG Communications recommend a specific router brand?

CG Communications, Inc. does not make an official recommendation. We do recommend that each person research before they buy. There are hundreds of different options available through the Internet. You may not need a $400 router to do the job of a $34 router.

Do I need to reboot my Internet radio system?

CG Communications, Inc. automatically reboots the radio systems every Tuesday morning between 2 AM and 4 AM, or every 7 days between 2 AM and 4AM.
