Secure Your Local Wireless Network
Secure Your Local Wireless Network
SECURITY NOTICE:
Having an open network is like having an open door to your personal information. Please take any and all necessary steps to secure your home’s network. CG Communications, Inc. recommends the following security measures:
Read your router’s documentation to enable encrypted password protection.
Change your wireless router’s default password.
Always use password protection on your routers.
Do not use trivial passwords or passwords that can be easily guessed.
It is recommended to use 8 or more characters consisting of UPPER case letters, lower case letters and numbers. If your router allows, use special characters such as !%^&@# in your password.
Do not enable guest access on your router. This allows anyone in the router’s wireless area to take advantage of the Internet service you are paying to receive. It will also slow down the performance of the overall network.
Do not open e-mail messages or attachments from strangers requesting personal information or passwords.
Do not disable your computer’s firewall or router’s firewall.
It is strongly recommended to install anti-virus, anti-spam and software to protect against spy-ware, mal-ware and/or trojan horses.
